Patrick Hofer-Noser

Following his vocational training, Dr Patrick Hofer-Noser studied electrical engineering at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zürich.  He received the medal for outstanding research work during his time as assistant and for his PhD thesis in the field of high power switches for energy and industrial applications. In 2001 Dr Hofer-Noser founded 3S Swiss Solar Systems, which evolved into the leading company for production equipment for the manufacture of solar modules. He was CEO and Delegate of the Board until 3S merged with Meyer Burger Technology Ltd. in 2010. Until 2012 he was CTO of the Meyer Burger Group and from 2012 to 2017 he was Head of Energy Systems at Meyer Burger.

After leading the company to become one of the major players for the supply of photovoltaic manufacturing processes and equipment, Dr Hofer-Noser focussed his interest on the future development of the end-electricity market.

His interests are on finding solutions for the integration of photovoltaic power generation into existing energy infrastructures and into urban-built areas; thus changing the energy mix as well as developing innovative industrial and economical models for new market entrants. As member of the Renewable Advisory Board of the International Energy Agency (IEA), Dr Hofer-Noser is an active participant in the debate surrounding the changing energy mix.
 
Dr Hofer-Noser is active in export promotion for Swiss Cleantech companies. Between 2010 and 2016 he was President of Cleantech Switzerland, the official Swiss export platform. In 2016 the activities which had been developed by Cleantech Switzerland were taken over by Switzerland Global Enterprise, the official Swiss export promotion agency. Since 2016 he is President of the Cleantech advisory board of Switzerland Global Enterprise since 2016.

As head of his company, Patrick Hofer-Noser received different national and international awards for entrepreneurship and for his work in the renewable energy sector.

He is Member of the Board of Directors of Güdel Group Ltd in Langenthal, Switzerland. The Güdel Group is a manufacturer of high-precision machine components and a supplier of sophisticated automation solutions.

Dr Hofer-Noser currently acts as Policy Liaison Officer for Meyer Burger during his sabbatical.
